Hydroseeding services, such as the ones we offer at Pyramid Environmental Services in Arizona, provide a service to restore bare ground or dead grass to its former glory, using a unique process that ensures the healthy growth and development of your grass even in the most challenging locations and circumstances.

What are the keys to successful hydroseeding?

We start by giving the seeds a good foundation by installing a layer of fertilizers, compost, sulfur, etc. so that your grass will have everything it needs to grow. Next, we lay the seeds in a mulch made of straw, paper, wood, and other products depending on the requirements for your specific application. This keeps the seeds in place while providing a second layer of ground for them to germinate. When applied correctly, mulch can prevent erosion, retain moisture and insulate the seeds providing an optimal environment for growth.

How can plants stop soil erosion?

Plants prevent soil erosion by offering protection and support to the ground. This achieved in several ways. First, plants slow the flow of water through absorption, preventing damage to the soil from flooding. Secondly, plant roots act as a stabilizer for the earth, holding it together and ensuring it is not washed or blown away by bad weather. In Phoenix, combatting soil erosion is especially important.

How deep should topsoil be for new lawn?

For the proper creation of fresh lawn, your topsoil should be well-prepared and should be a depth that’s equivalent to the lengths of grass roots. In the majority of cases, grass has roots 4-6 inches long. Therefore, providing topsoil of 6 inches is the best place the start.

Post-Installation

How long does it take for hydroseed to germinate?

We recommend that you don’t mow your lawn until your grass blades have reached a height of more than 2 inches. This is usually between four to six weeks following initial seeding, though it may vary. Only mow your grass to a height that is one-third of its full length. It’s also essential to keep a proper mowing schedule to keep your lawn looking its best.
